Eagles earn wins in Air Force Media Contest Published March 12, 2009 By U.S. Air Force Expeditionary Center Public Affairs FORT DIX, N.J. -- Two Airmen from the U.S. Air Force Expeditionary Center won placings in the Air Force Media Contest when results were announced on March 12. Following were the winners: Tech. Sgt. Scott T. Sturkol, NCO in charge of the U.S. Air Force Expeditionary Center Public Affairs Office, won third place for Air Force News Photograph of the Year for his photo entitled, "Air Force hero placed to rest after nearly 40 years." The photo was taken during a funeral at Arlington National Cemetery on April 9, 2008. It had also previously won as the Air Mobility Command News Photograph of the Year for 2008. Staff Sgt. Paul R. Evans, contingency skills instructor and unit photographer for the Expeditionary Center's 421st Combat Training Squadron, won third place for Air Force Portrait/Personality Photograph of the Year for his photo entitled, "Training Break." The photo was taken on a Fort Dix range during the Phoenix Warrior Training Course on June 5, 2008, while security forces students were training in combat first aid. It had also previously won as the Air Mobility Command Portrait/Personality Photograph of the Year for 2008. Both photos are also competing in the 2008 Department of Defense Visual Information Awards competition.
