The 49th Combat Training Squadron, known as the "Knights," is a specialized unit of 32 personnel. These subject matter experts facilitate advanced training and concept development, laying the foundation of lethality and enabling the rapid delivery of the Joint Force.
The Knights are responsible for introducing joint and coalition aircrew, mission planners, and combat support elements to simulated wartime environments with an emphasis on Joint Force integration. These exercises provide a venue to test and evaluate the tactics, techniques, and procedures that address emerging problem sets for Air Mobility Command (AMC), in conjunction with Air Combat Command, Air Force Special Operations Command, and the wider Joint enterprise.
Currently, the squadron is responsible for integrating Mobility Air Force personnel and units into two 400-level exercises annually, training approximately 3,000-4,000 joint and coalition service members. They also lead the planning and execution of four 300-level exercises that integrate Desired Learning Objectives into Joint Forcible Entry exercises, training an additional 6,000 to 13,000 service members annually. These exercises are a critical component of the annual training and certification requirements for the 82nd Airborne Division’s Immediate Response Force.
Founded on October 21st, 2022, the 49th was created to collaborate with AMC’s Directorate of Operations (AMC/A3) and participating units increasing lethality through realistic exercises for AMC and Joint Force personnel. The Knights bridge the gap between the operational and logistical dimensions of war and continue to translate higher headquarters directives into ensuring relevant training opportunities for units and personnel across AMC.
