Colonel Nicholas D. Arthur is the Deputy Commander of 621st Contingency Response Wing, with forces stationed at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst (JB MDL), New Jersey, Travis Air Force Base, California and twenty Army and Marine Corps installations worldwide. The 621st is the Nation’s only Contingency Response Wing (CRW), consisting of the 621st and 821st Contingency Response Groups, as well as the 621st Air Mobility Advisory Group. The CRW has four primary missions: advising partner nations, directing theater-wide command and control, joint integration, and opening airbases around the globe for contingency and humanitarian operations. The Wing accomplishes its mission with an agile force of 1,500 professional Airmen.
Col Arthur received his commission upon graduating from Indiana University in December 2006. He completed Joint Specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training in January 2009 at Vance Air Force Base, OK, and then performed duties as a KC- 10A Instructor and Evaluator Pilot at both Travis AFB, CA and JB MDL, NJ. Col Arthur then served as a KC-46 Pegasus Initial Cadre Instructor and Evaluator Pilot at Altus AFB, OK where he was responsible for multiple aspects in the launch of the Air Force’s KC-46 program.
Following leadership development programs, including the Air Force’s School of Advanced Air and Space Studies, Col Arthur served as Chief of Safety for the 305th Air Mobility Wing at JB MDL, NJ, the Department of Defense’s only tri-service aviation safety program. He then served as Commander of the 2d Air Refueling Squadron, JB MDL, NJ, the United States’ second oldest military flying squadron, where he led the squadron’s transition from the KC-10A Extender to the KC-46A Pegasus aircraft while executing rapid global mobility missions including combat, humanitarian, and peacetime air refueling, cargo, and aeromedical evacuation missions. Prior to his current position, Col Arthur was the Deputy Directorate for Politico-Military Affairs (Western Hemisphere) Homeland Division Chief in the Joint Staff’s Strategic Plans and Policy Directorate (J-5), Pentagon, Washington, D.C.
Throughout his flying career, Col Arthur has commanded combat missions in support of Operations ENDURING FREEDOM, IRAQI FREEDOM, NEW DAWN, ODYSSEY DAWN, and UNIFIED PROTECTOR. Additionally, he commanded a flying squadron during Operations INHERENT RESOLVE, FREEDOM SENTINEL, and ALLIES REFUGE. He has served as an Instructor and Evaluator Pilot in both the KC-10 Extender and KC-46 Pegasus and has logged over 3,200 hours in the KC-46A, KC-10A, T-1A, and T-6A.
